Every class has a student for whom the standard approach is the wrong one. A good school notices before the report card does.
"Learns differently" covers a lot of ground — dyslexia, ADHD, autism, a specific learning difference, an English-language learner finding their feet, a gifted child who is bored into trouble. What these students share is not a deficit. It is a profile. Our Student Support Services exists because students do not all arrive the same, and a school should plan for that.
Support that is planned, not improvised
Depending on a student's documented needs and eligibility, support can include individualized learning plans, classroom accommodations, reading and academic intervention, curriculum modifications, and progress monitoring that checks whether the support is actually working. For students with an IEP or a 504 plan, those plans are coordinated rather than filed away.
The mechanism is the small class
None of this works without teachers who can see the individual student. A teacher who reads every submission can tell the difference between a child who is coasting and one who is stuck — and between "won't" and "can't," which is the whole ballgame for a student who learns differently. Small classes are the thing that makes individualized support possible at all.
Meeting a student where they are is not lowering the bar. It is building the ramp that lets them reach it.
A partnership with the family
Parents know their child before we do. The best plans are built with families, not handed to them — and reviewed as a student grows. Support follows a student across the Academy's schools and programs.
An honest note on what we can promise
Services and eligibility are determined individually, based on documentation, and coordinated with each family; some needs are met best in partnership with outside specialists. What we can promise is the posture: a school that treats a different learning profile as information to plan around, not a problem to explain away.
